The air and ground teams in the field are supported by a staff of people at the mission base. The size of the mission base staff will vary based on the scope of the mission. All missions performed by Civil Air Patrol are organized under the Incident Command System (ICS). An Incident Commander (IC) is in charge of all aspects of each mission. A typical mission will involve a staff responsible for the following areas: Planning, Operations, Logistics, and Finance/Administration.
CAP also owns and operates one of the largest communications networks in the country. Over 20,000 radio stations are used in support of our missions. This communications network is also used as a backup for local and state civil defense and U.S. Air Force communications.
