The ground branch is the complement to air branch and is responsible for CAP ground teams. Ground teams assist the aircrews in search & rescue missions and are often involved in disaster relief and missing persons searches. CAP ground teams are often the first on the scene of aircraft crashes.
Ground teams are trained in the following skill areas: land navigation, direction finding techniques, first-aid, land survival, land search techniques, natural hazards, managing search teams, helicopter operations, and air-ground signaling.
