Why do we have a dress code?

The shared experience of the art of living well through a semi-formal dance is an expression of our commitment to the culture of life in a social setting.  The semi-formal dance is an evening in which our young men and women will be given a venue outside of the typical CAP activities to grow in an awareness of who they are, who they are called to be and how to grow in a deeper understanding of the truth of the human person’s dignity.  To form our cadets in learning how to relate to one another in a way that is authentically male and female and an expression of the truth and beauty of the complementarity of man and woman, we offer the following guidelines for attire at the semi-formal dance:

Semi-Formal Attire for Young Ladies

-All dresses, skirts, and gowns must be to the knee or longer.

-A gown may be worn, but is not required; other acceptable semi-formal options for girls are: dress, skirt with a blouse, or pant suit.

-Dresses with sleeves, thick straps, spaghetti straps, as well as strapless dresses are acceptable.

-If you wear a sleeveless or strapless dress and it is considered too revealing, then you must also wear a semi-formal jacket, sweater, cardigan, or wrap.  If you have questions, contact Chaplain Burton (JoeDebBurton@msn.com ) or Major Jay Sliwinski (MajorJay@Sliwinski.Net ) directly for clarification.

-Necklines, including those of strapless dresses, must leave no more than 4-5 inches bare chest between the collar bones at the sternum and the top of the dress; no cleavage may show.

-Backless ensembles, plunging necklines, exposed midriffs, and revealing styles are not acceptable.

-Dress heels or dressy flat shoes are required.

Semi-Formal Attire for Young Gentlemen

-A suit may be worn, but is not required.

-Gentlemen must wear a tucked in collared shirt with tie and slacks or khakis.  A suit coat or blazer is preferred, if possible.

-Dress shoes and a belt are also required.

-Jeans, athletic shoes, white socks and baseball caps are not acceptable.

Members and guests that choose not to follow the dress code will not be permitted to enter the semi-formal event until they are dressed appropriately.  If adjustments cannot be made, entry will not be allowed.  Members are responsible for ensuring any guests comply with the dress code.
